The Nigeria Football Federation NFF and the Sports Ministry are yet to reach a common ground on the appointment of a new head coach for the Super Eagles.

The NFF are looking to appoint a foreigner as the new head coach for the Super Eagles this month.

Reports say the football authority have settled for the Portuguese José Peseiro, but the Sports Ministry are not happy with the choice.

Three other candidates Phillip Cocu, Laurent Blanc and Ernesto Valverde were also shortlisted for the post.

The 62-year-old was previously designated as the new coach of the Super Eagles before contract negotiations broke down

The Sports Ministry want a level playing field for all the shortlisted coaches and has directed the NFF to invite them to Nigeria for interview.

The NFF are however not willing to back down on their decision and ready to stick with Peseiro.

The Super Eagles will host Sierra Leone in their first qualifying game for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

The three-time African champions are in Group A with Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau and São Tomé/Principe or Mauritius.

The Super Eagles will then fly to either São Tomé or Port Louis for their matchday two encounter.

The window for these two matches is 30th May – 14th June.
