The Minister of works Dave Umahi has raised alarm over the reckless habit of tanker and truck drivers parking along the completed carriageway of the Akpajo-Onne East-west Road section in Rivers state.
Umahi warned that such actions are capable of damaging the fifteen kilometers dualized road, which has cost the present administration billions of Naira.
The Minister expressed concerns over what he described as deliberate attempts by heavy duty truck drivers to convert carriageways into parking lots an act which he said is capable of vandalizing the roads.
Earlier the federal controler of works Tarilade Enwereama and some officials of the Ministry expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and revealed that the Right hand carriageway known as the Eket bound is fully completed while work in the Portharcourt bound section has Advanced.
The Minister further relavealed that plans are underway to construct parking lots along the axis while urging truck drivers to desist from parking along the carriageway as there are already visible cracks at the edges of the road.
