The Ebonyi State Government has commenced the demolition of buildings marked on the defunct Abakpa Main Market, in Abakakili the state capital.
The demolition follows allegations of the area becoming a hideout for criminals since the market was relocated about four months ago.

The supervisory special Assistant to Ebonyi State Governor on Capital Territory and Estate Development, Emma Uzor, who supervised the demolition exercise, told journalists that the area will now be returned to residential, in line with it original master plan.
Residents living around the area while attesting to the activities being carried out by hoodlums in the area, say they are now relieved.
