The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ebonyi State, South East Nigeria says it arrested a total of 212 illicit drug traffickers, with forty-three (43) of them being female, between the month of January and June 2025.
The Ebonyi State Commander, Okechukwu Nkere, made the disclosure while speaking to Journalists in Abakaliki, in commemoration of the United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse and illicit trafficking, 2025 with the theme “The Evidence is clear, invest in prevention”.
Nkere decried the use of hard drugs among youth’s, pointing out that there is no positive remedy indulging in drugs and substance abuse in Life to overcome challenges saying the theme of the 2025 NDLEA Day is in consonance with the objective of the agency in the war against drug abuse activities carried out in schools and communities to enlighten the public.
He gave a performance breakdown of the anti-drug agency in the State, while calling for concerted efforts of stakeholders on adequate sensitization and public enlightenment in the rural areas especially among adolescent aged children.

“The National drug law enforcement Agency has come a long way in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, misuse of illicit drugs and diversion of pharmaceutical prescription drugs. Within the period under review, the state command arrested a total of two hundred and twelve 212 suspects Comprising 169 Males and 43 Females for various degrees of complicity in drugs related offences, recording 91.768Kg of cannabis Sativa and psychotropic substances and conviction of 7 persons.
The command successfully treated and rehabilitated 7 clients and has 11 persons currently undergoing treatment and rehabilitation, while 83 males and 21 females were provided with brief counselling intervention in our facility”
The State Commander who also had a training session with operatives of the command appeals for rehabilitation center in Ebonyi State.
