There is noticeable apprehension in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, South East Nigeria as residents show what is seen as maximum level of compliance on Monday, to the two-day purported sit-at-home order imposed on the region by the proscribed separatist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Markets, financial institutions, petrol stations as well as private and public enterprises in Abakaliki metropolis remained closed in the early hours of the first day of the civil disobedience action.

AIT crew monitoring the situation in the state reports that as at 8 O’clock in the morning, unlike other work days, major roads and streets of the capital city were virtually free of human and vehicular traffic, an indication that most residents are keeping indoors.
