At least 13 people have died in a disturbing case of outbreak of Cholera disease in Ebonyi State, according to records released by health officials.
Some remote communities in two Local Government Areas of the State, have been worst hit in the past week, resulting in health emergencies.
Ndibokote village of Ezza Inyimagu, in Izzi Local Government Area of the state that has a common farmland boundary with Benue State, where villagers lack portable pipe borne water, accessible roads, health care facilities, electricity and other basic social amenities, is among the villages terribly affected in the latest cholera outbreak.

The 13 fatalities recorded and 69 other confirmed cases are mainly from three villages along the Ebonyi – Benue States corridor, with possibilities of further spread.
A youth leader in the affected village, Moses Nwebonyi and health worker gave an insight on the outbreak of the disease in the area, expressing the hope that ongoing interventions will check the fatality rate and ensure recovery of patients.
Health experts told AIT in Abakaliki that early detection, adequate sensitization, good hygiene practices, access to portable water, motorable roads, adequate medical facilities, as well as toilet facilities to avoid open defecation, are identified essential infrastructural needs lacking in the affected remote villages, that would have prevented the cholera outbreak.
