The Governor of Ebonyi, Francis Nwifuru, the home State of late Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has expressed sadness over the death of the former Governor and ex-Minister.
Nwifuru said in Abakaliki on Thursday that he received with rude shock the news of the death of the former Governor of Old Abia State, and an illustrious Son of Ebonyi State.
A Statement personally signed by Governor Nwifuru recalled the political and leadership roles played by Dr. Onu in the history of Nigeria; as a civilian Governor, two-time Minister of Science and Technology, National Chairman of the defunct ANPP, and a Presidential candidate, describing the departed statesman as a thoroughbred politician and an advocate of justice and fairness.
Governor Nwifuru stated: “It is indeed a sad development losing a patriotic leader who stopped at nothing at rendering best services to his people when he served in different capacities.”
He notes that the late Dr. Onu will be remembered for his wit, candour, knack for excellence and relentless commitment to the development of Ebonyi State and the nation.
The Governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the immediate family and pray God to give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
