Ebonyi State Govt Approves Appointment Of VC, Others For Its 2 New Universities

The Ebonyi State Government has approved the appointment of Principal officers, including Vice Chancellors for the two new Universities being established by the State.

This was part of decisions reached at the regular State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Francis Nwifuru at the Government House, Abakaliki on Wednesday.

Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information, Jude Okpor told Newsmen that the action was to ensure that the two new State-owned institutions meet up the expected take-off dates.

The positions to be filled are; Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Bursar and Librarian, explaining that the principal officers when employed, will add to the manpower for the supervision of the ongoing projects in the Universities.

“In addition to the ongoing building construction in the two new Universities: ICT University, Oferekpe, and University of Aeronautics and Space Engineering, Ezza, to ensure smooth take off of academic activities therein, the Council approved the construction of the following; Five (5) hostel buildings at the ICT University, Oferekpe, Two (2) hostel buildings at the University of Aeronautics and Space Engineering, Ezza as well as Four (4) faculty buildings at ICT University, Oferekpe and Two (2) faculty building at University of Aeronautics and Space Engineering, Ezza,” the Information Commissioner noted.

The Information Commissioner also noted that, in the areas of infrastructural and rural development, the Council meeting approved the award of the 24km Umuogudu Oshia – Nigercem Road as well as the 13km Oriuzor Road, which are major rural agrarian artirey roads that would aid farming, ease access to evacuation of farm produce, reduce food scarcity, create new jobs for the youths and accelerate economic and social developments of the corridors.

The State government further set up a nine-member Committee head by the Deputy Governor, to work out modalities for the implementation of the disbursement of N1million each to 1,300 youths from the 13 Local Government Areas of the State.

“‘In furtherance of His Excellency’s earlier pronouncement to empower a total of 1,300 Ebonyi youths with a million naira each at the ratio of 100 youths per Local Government Area, the Council constituted a nine-man high powered committee headed by the Deputy Governor of the State to work out modalities for implementation. This is in appreciation of the Ebonyi youths’ obedience to His Excellency’s call for them to embrace peace,” Okpor explained.
