Ebonyi State Locked Down As IPOB Order Hits Hard On Region

Reports from Ebonyi State in the South East region of Nigeria, indicate that Abakaliki, the State capital and other major towns witnessed total shut down of businesses, schools, financial institutions and a low vehicular movement which affected human traffic and government workers, on Thursday.

This was a significant impact of the sit-at-home order imposed on the region by the outlawed Indegenous People of Biafra (IPOB) which took a heavy toll on the socio-economic lives of the people.

But, there was no reported incident of violence or breakdown of law and order in any part of the State.

ait.live crew who monitored the civil disobedience action in the city capital, observed that as early as 9 o’clock in the morning, they were Police operatives already on patrols, and those positioned at strategic locations.

At the popular Udensi round about, no vehicular movements were spotted while shops and business places were locked up.

Despite being located at the areas of the State Police Command headquarters and the old Government House, Abakaliki, the usually busy Udensi roundabout was a ghost of itself, as people were no where to be seen and the entire roads deserted.

The situation was the same at the areas around the Pa Ngele Orunta Township Stadium in Abakaliki.

Residents told our Correspondence that they choose to stay indoors on a day like this, for fear of the unknown.

The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Joshua Ukandu, had earlier told ait.live that the Command had deployed officers and intelligence personnel to ensure there is no breakdown of law and order, as well as boost public confidence to enable people go about their lawful businesses.
