Nigerian Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo is calling for deeper collaboration among African nations and a rethink of leadership strategies to unlock the continent’s economic potential.
Speaking at the 2025 Afreximbank Annual Meetings in Abuja, Obasanjo warned that Africa’s economy is dwindling due to fragmented growth and leadership that fails to grasp core economic principles.
The former president lamented the continent’s continued dependence on foreign aid, noting that the tendency of many African leaders to adopt Western models without contextual understanding has led to stagnation rather than development.
