Worried by the economic hardship currently faced by Nigerians and its attendant effects, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has advised Civil Servants in the state to venture into agriculture inorder to ameliorate the impact of the current food shortages in their homes.
Governor Oborevwori who gave the advised at Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state during the Flag-off of the state’s phase three grain palliative distribution exercise, said his administration will continue to explore ways to tackle the hunger menace.
Since the removal of fuel subsidy on May 29, 2023, Delta state under governor Sheriff Oborevwori has adopted several measures to ensure that the state Civil Servants would cushion the effects.
Some of the measures were payment of all the outstanding promotion arrears that ran into billions, 10,000 stipend for three months for the 50,193 workers which cost the state over N1.5B and reduction of their work days a opportunity the governor wants the workers to make judicious use of.
Beyond the state government’s efforts, the vulnerable in Delta state have also benefitted from grains through the state government’s collaboration and goodwill with different Agencies.
In their goodwill messages, representatives of poultry, fishery and piggery farmers in the state, thanked Governor Oborevwori for his interventions.
They promised to contribute to sustainable food security in the state and beyond.
