Nigeria and other member States of the sub regional body, ECOWAS are seeking to intensify security corporation to meet evolving challenges such as cybercrime and drug trafficking.
At a meeting of the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO) to harmonize regional laws on organized transnational crime amongst member states held in Abuja, WAPPCO Chairman and Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun said a more encompassing regional and legal security framework will need to be developed.
Retired Colonel Abdulrhaman who represented the WAPCCO Director for Peacekeeping and Regional Security also highlighted the importance of mitigating the trafficking of counterfeit goods as well as persons along West African border routes.
The 2 day event attended by representative of at least 11 West African countries also addressed issues of terrorism, cattle herder conflicts, effective exchange of data as well as capacity building for security personnel.
