The authority of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, has suspended Guinea from all ECOWAS governing bodies with immediate effect.
The Body is immediately dispatching a high-level ECOWAS mission to Guinea to assess the situation and review it in light of developments in the
West African country.

This is contained in the final communique issued at the end of the extraordinary session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government E videoconference meeting held on Wednesday, September 8, 2021.
The Authority called on the African Union and the United Nations to endorse its decisions.
The Authority demanded an immediate return to constitutional order in Guinea and asked the Defence and Security Forces of the country to maintain a constitutional posture.
On the situation in Mali, The Authority affirmed ECOWAS’ commitment to supporting Mali for a successful transition and called on multilateral and bilateral partners to continue to support the transition process, particularly in the preparations for the elections.
In this regard, the Authority congratulated the Mediator, former Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan, and urged him to continue his efforts for a successful transition in Mali.
The Heads of State and Government expressed their deep gratitude to the Ghanaian president and chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for his leadership of the Community.
