The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo state has commended the peace agreement initiated by the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, to ensure peaceful conduct of the election in Edo State.

AIT correspondent, who spoke to some leaders of the party during its campaign in Orionmwon, reported that the peace agreement has been described as a welcome development in the state.

Just when it seemed the Edo State governorship election was edging towards violence, the Oba of Benin intervened. A peace agreement was reached between the two major political parties ahead of the election.

Chairman of the PDP Campaign council in Edo state, Dan Orbih, said the party remains committed to a peaceful election in Edo State.

During the campaign rally, other leaders of the party commended the move by the monarch. They stated that the peace agreement will ensure that the state does not become a war zone during and after the election.

The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, emphasized that the election in the state will be the most peaceful in Nigeria.
