Edo state Governor, Monday Okpebholo

The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, who opened his case before the Edo state Governorship Election Petition Tribunal immediately closed it after calling one witness.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had on 6th of February close its case without calling any witnesses to justify the September 21, 2024 election it conducted in Edo State to enable the Governor Okpebholo to open his case.

Counsel for the governor, Onyechi Ikpeazu called one witness Usman Majek, who is an APC polling agent from Usen in Ovia South-West Local Government Area in Edo State.

Majerk under cross-examination by the petitioners lead counsel, Adetunji Oyeyipo, the witness agreed that there was over-voting in his polling unit.

But accreditation and voting took place simultaneously in his unit.

The witness also informed the tribunal that he complained to the police and the Independent National Electoral Commission about the result he entered on the result sheet after he signed it.

After Majek’s testimony, Ikpeazu applied to close defense.

Justice Wilfred Kpochi who led three-member of the panel granted Ikpeazu’s request and adjourned till February 12 for APC to open its case.
