A former Edo State Commissioner for Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Diaspora Affairs under Governor Godwin Obaseki’s first term in office, Osaze Osemwingie-Ero, who was arrested and imprisoned for over a year in Italy for mafia related crimes, has led a peaceful protest to the Italian Embassy in London, demanding the release of more than 300 Nigerians unlawfully detained in Italy, over Alleged mafia-related crimes under article 416BIS.
Submitting his petition to the Italian Embassy in London, Ero is demanding the unconditional release of the detainees and full compensation to be paid to him and others.

He was arrested and detained for about eighteen months in italy, but regained his freedom after he was declared innocent by an Italian court.
He is now seeking for justice for himself and other Nigerians who suffered the same fate with him.
Ero said the action of the Italian authorities was a violation of human rights against the Nigerians and they must be adequately compensated.
He promised to pursue the case to a logical conclusion.
