Joy and excitement filled the air as 5,000 newly recruited teachers under the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration officially received their employment letters. The governor personally presented the letters, marking a significant milestone for the beneficiaries who have long awaited this moment.
While addressing the teachers, many of whom have served as casual staff for the past three years, Governor Okpebholo urged them to discharge their duties with passion and positively impact the lives of students across the state
Out of the 5,000 primary and secondary school teachers, about 3,000 had been working on contract basis under the former administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki, engaged under the EDOSTAR initiative. They were initially paid a monthly salary of ₦40,000, which was later increased to ₦65,000 following the minimum wage review.
On Workers’ Day, May 1, 2025, Governor Okpebholo promised to fully absorb the casual teachers into the state civil service. Five months after that commitment, the promise has now been fulfilled with the formal issuance of employment letters.
As the governor arrived at the Festival Hall of Government House, the venue for the presentation, the teachers erupted in jubilation, overwhelmed with emotions and gratitude.
Governor Okpebholo not only delivered the letters but also provided transportation stipends to enable the teachers return to their respective destinations comfortably. He charged them to uphold professionalism and justify the confidence reposed in them by the state government.
