The media campaign council of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State, has accused the state Governor Godwin Obaseki of sponsoring thugs to destroy campaign billboards of it’s candidate in the September nineteen governorship election, Osagie Ize-Iyamu located in strategic areas in Benin metropolis.
The national vice Chairman of the media campaign council and former member of the house of representatives Patrick Obahiagbon who disclosed this to journalists in Benin city says despite the fact that the outdoor billboards and other campaign materials were duly paid for, designed and elected in full compliance with all legal requirements, the state government went ahead to pull it down.
Patrick Obahiagbon says the incumbent governor and candidate of the PDP, Godwin Obaseki is already afraid of defeat due to the large support Osagie Ize-Iyamu is gathering across the state hence he decided to resort to destroying the billboards of his major contender.
The campaign council later took Journalists to the spots in Uselu shell, New Benin and Iyaro in Benin metropolis where the billboards were destroyed as some resident of the areas condemned the act.
In a swift reaction, the special Adviser to governor Godwin Obaseki on media and communication Crusoe Osagie, denied the claims outrightly, pointing out that the state government has no hand in it.
