Edo Governorship Election: INEC Trains Electoral Officer Ahead of Exercise

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has embarked on a training exercise for its electoral officers ahead of the September 19 Governorship Election in Edo State.

The European Union-funded training tagged” Election Monitoring and Support Centre(EMSC) Implementers Workshop is aimed at equipping electoral officers with the necessary skills to effectively monitor and track all the election activities in the State.

Speaking, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Edo State, Johnson Alalibo, said the training will bridge existing gaps among all the officials involved in the election exercise.

He commended the efforts of the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES) for supporting the commission to train it’s key officials, including Heads of Department and electoral officers drawn from all the Local Government government Areas of the state .

The project coordinator European Centre for Electoral Support, Sylvester Somo said the workshop is specifically to monitor activities in highly volatile areas.

He added further that the training will afford participants the opportunity to understand the various structures and operational framework of the Election Monitoring and Support Centre necessary for a successful conduct of the election.

European Centre for Electoral Support held similar programme during and after the 2019 General Election as well as other off cycle Governorship elections in Nigeria.
