Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has alleged that the main opposition party in the state, the All Progressives Congress, APC, is working in tandem with the Nigeria Police Force, NPF to harass and arrest its prominent stalwarts perceived to have political value ahead of the September 21 Governorship election.

Speaking to journalists at the state party secretariat in Benin City, Director-General of the Asue-Ogie Campaign Management Organisation, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, claims that some policemen have been drafted to the state solely to weaken the party structure.

In his allegation, he says the party is aware that the police personnel have a long list of top PDP chieftains across the State’s three senatorial districts whom they plan to arrest over trumped up charges before the off-cycle election in September.

Iduoriyekemwen wants well-meaning Nigerians and the international community to turn their attention to Edo State and take note of what he describes as a disturbing pattern of harassment and intimidation by the police as sponsored by the APC.
