Commissioner of Police in Edo State, South-South Nigeria, Nemi Edwin has expressed the commitment of the Command to remove illegal firearms across the state ahead of the September 21 Governorship election.
The Commissioner was speaking after arrest of 15 suspects for various crimes as he also called for the cooperation of the public especially with provision of credible information to ensure that the streets were rid of criminals, illegal arms and ammunitions.
Iwo while speaking to journalists said that since he assumed work in Edo State almost three weeks ago he has been meeting with politicians and other key players in to brainstorm and plan towards making the Governorship election set for September 21 crisis free.
According to him, officers and men of the Command have been moving round the state to ensure that all illegal firearms were mopped from the streets.
The Commissioner also said that the Command has made modest achievements in crime fighting with the arrest of suspects for various crimes. State Police Public Relations Officer, Joel Yamu mentioned the disturbing crime perpetrated by one Ehis Jonah and his gang who kidnapped, murdered and stole motorcycle from a man at Uromi.
The gang was also involved in high profile kidnappings in Esan land including the Igueben Train Station kidnapping. Yamu said investigation was ongoing before they will have their day in court.
