The Edo State Government says it does not dabble into the activities of prescribed authorities within their spheres of influence in the State and had no business appointing anyone as Chief.

This position was given by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Iyamu in Benin City against the backdrop of accusations in some quarters that the Governor Godwin Obaseki -led administration has given recognition to one Arisco Osemwengie who had challenged the sovereignty of the Benin Royal throne in 2015.

A Coalition of Socio-cultural Organisations converged on Benin City to express their concerns over what they considered as the position of Edo State Government on the claims by one Arisco Osemwengie to the sovereignty of the Benin throne in 2015.

The coalition gave reasons for their worries, noting that the Oba of Benin and his kingdom remains a strong, unifying bond for the Binis and all.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Iyamu spoke on behalf of the State Government.
He explained that Arisco Osemwengie renounced the claims for which he was taken to court.

He says the Godwin Obaseki- led administration believes in the supremacy of the Benin Monarch.
