The Edo State Government has shut down some private hospitals and laboratories operating illegally in the state.
The health facilities shutdown comes on the heels of the state Ministry of Health’s resolve to curb quackery and other challenges confronting the health sector in the state.
State commissioner for health, Dr Samuel Alli led a team from the directorate of regulation and monitoring on an enforcement drive to some hospitals and laboratories operating at Ikpoba Okha local government area of the state to ascertain their level of compliance with laid down regulations of operation.
Two of the hospitals did not meet the standard procedures of operation and the commissioner ordered that they be instantly sealed up.

According to the commissioner, the owners of the hospitals, who were operating in an unhealthy environment, failed to properly register their facilities and also engaged in illegal training and engagement of auxiliary nurses and unqualified workers.
While sealing up another medical laboratory, the commissioner said the state government had put measures in place to curb the activities of illegal operators of medical facilities in the state, adding that government will not allow the lives of the people in the state to be put at risk.
He sent out a warning to those operating unregistered health facilities to desist from such activity or face the full wrath of the law.
