The Edo State Special Security Squad, code-named Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultists, has clarified that the recent killing at Eboh Quarters, Estate Gate area of Benin City, is not cult-related but stemmed from a dispute over park ticketing activities.
Secretary of the squad, Izegaegbe John, made this known while briefing journalists in Benin City.
According to Izegaegbe John, the squad received a distress call in the early hours of Saturday from a resident reporting a killing in the community.
Operatives swiftly moved to the scene, where they confirmed the death of a man identified as Mr. Courage, popularly known as “Dogo.”
He said Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident was linked to disagreements surrounding park ticketing operations.
The deceased was allegedly involved in illegal ticketing despite the state government’s ban and was accused by some individuals of failing to properly share proceeds.
The dispute, authorities say, escalated and reportedly led to his death.
The squad secretary emphasized that the incident is not connected to cult activities.
He confirmed that suspects have been arrested and are currently providing useful information to aid further investigations.
