Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has vowed to bring to justice those responsible for the brutal killings of several individuals and destruction of properties across seven communities in the Ovia South West Local Government Area of the state. He also promised to restore lasting peace to the affected areas.

During an assessment visit to the communities, Governor Okpebholo assured that efforts would be made to establish a police outpost in the area to prevent future attacks.

On February 21, 2025, tragic reports emerged about several people killed and properties destroyed in seven communities in Ovia South West Local Government Area. The assailants, suspected to be armed militants from a neighboring state, left the residents in fear. Governor Okpebholo visited the communities to gain firsthand insight into the events and explore ways to restore peace permanently.
The affected communities included Marindoti, Gbelemontin Domiju, Kola Village, Taiye Camp, and Eto Camp. Residents who are predominantly farmers explained that the conflict began when they tried to protect their farmlands from invaders who had been stealing their harvests.

Governor Okpebholo, deeply moved by the tragedy, reassured the people of his commitment to bringing lasting peace to their communities.

The Governor also held a meeting with leaders and members of the nearby Gbelebe Community, a neighbouring Ijaw community, He urged them to foster peace and unity with their neighbors and promised to bring development to the area.
