Crisis looms in Edo State primary education sector as the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers threatens to go on an indefinite strike on Monday 18 of January.

The union at a meeting on Monday says failure of the state government to meet with their pending demands will put all teaching and learning activities in primary schools on hold.

Primary school pupils in Edo state are preparing to join others in the education sector to resume school on Monday 18 of January as announced by the government.

But this may likely not be with the strike action being proposed the same day by the Edo state chapter of Nigeria Union of Teachers.

The union at an enlarged meeting on Monday in Benin city says various appeals and interventions for the state government to meet their demands has met with a brick wall, making the strike action inevitable.

The state executive council of the union while noting the effect of the strike on the pupils is calling on key players in the education sector to prevail on the government to meet with their demands.

The demands of the NUT which the state government is yet to address include non payment or incomplete payment of 2013 to 2015 promotion arears of some teachers.
