Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki says the success recorded in the first phase of the State Oil Palm Programme, ESOPP, which seeks to ensure that Edo becomes the oil palm hub in Nigeria has prompted an investment into a second phase of the programme with fifty thousand hectares set aside for oil palm production.
The Governor made this known when he led some private investors to assess some of the farm settlements in Orhionmwon and Owan West Local Government Areas of the state.
Governor Godwin Obaseki’s visit to Ugo in Orhionmwon Local Government Area was for the flag off of the reconstruction of the four point five kilometre Ugo-Evboesi road.
The process for the reconstruction is being carried out under Edo state’s investment tax credit scheme.
The next stop for him and some visitors who are investors under the Edo State Oil Palm Programme, ESOPP, is Okogbo in the same Orhionmwon.
He gives an insight into the ESOPP programme launched in 2019, which has recorded success and is now entering its second phase.
The entourage leaves from there to Owan West to inspect huge farm settlements belonging to some of the investors.
Obaseki reveals that the state government inherited over six hundred thousand hectares of farms and forest lands, some of which are being put to use for the benefit of host communities, state, and investors.
The Edo State Oil Palm Programme seeks to make the State an Oil Palm hub in Nigeria.
