Edo Police bust fake herbalists gang, arrest rape suspect

The Police in Edo state have arrested a gang of scammers posing as herbalists to defraud unsuspecting citizens
Police Commissioner Muhammed Dankwara who paraded one of the suspects and other suspected criminals, advised residents to be wary of people they interact and exercise caution on how they disclose personal information
25- year old Tosin Ayodele one of the gang membets arrested by operatives of the Rapid Respond Squad of the Edo state police command during an investigation into a case of obtaining money under false pretences.


According to the police, Ayodele and other gang members, who posed as herbalists accosted one of their victims along Ugbor Road with spurious predictions of death in his family unless he cleansed himself spiritually and financially.
In fear, the victim made more than five million naira in payments to the gang for spiritual cleansing.


Ayodele who claimed to be a tailor narrated his involvement in the crime levelled against him as police displayed exhibits of their crime which include fake foreign currencies and charms.

The police also paraded a twenty four year old man for allegedly drugging and raping a girl causing serious bodily harm.
His arrest was carried out after the parents of the girl reported her deteriorating health.
The police say the suspects will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
