Residents of Benin City have commended the Senator Monday Okpebholo-led administration for the ongoing road rehabilitation and reconstruction works across Edo State.
The commendation came as members of the State House of Assembly Ad-Hoc Committee on Project Monitoring intensified oversight of road and erosion control projects, urging contractors to adhere strictly to quality standards and timely delivery.
Led by the Deputy Majority Leader, Addeh Isibor, they are inspecting ongoing projects across the state to assess quality of work, compliance with specifications, and pace of execution.
The inspection started at the Upper Ekehuan Road in Igo Community, where the committee engages contractors on site to seek clarification on timelines and construction standards.
From there, the team went to the Catholic Charismatic Road in Ugbiyhoko to inspect an erosion control project.
Addeh Isibor commended governor Monday Okpebholo for prioritising infrastructure development across Edo State.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Works, Felix Akabue, gave the assurance that contractors will take full advantage of the dry season to accelerate project delivery.
At the Uteh-Palace Road, which spans approximately four-point-one kilometres, the committee was informed that work has reached about sixty percent completion, with delivery expected within the next four months.
The inspection also covers the Ekiuwa-Temboga Road, a four-kilometre stretch expected to provide direct access to the University of Benin.
Once a severe erosion gully that displaced residents, the road is now undergoing reconstruction.
The lawmakers noted that the House will not hesitate to summon or recommend sanctions against any contractor found to be delivering substandard work, as legislative oversight continues to ensure quality, accountability, and value for public funds.
The legislators say the projects, when completed, will open up new communities, improve mobility, and significantly ease traffic congestion across the state.
