Teachers in Edo State, under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, have commenced strike action, to demand for better welfare entitlements from the State government.
The teachers say the strike action became necessary after several overtures to the state government to meet their demands, among which was the unpaid promotion arrears for the teachers in some local government areas since 2013.
At a Senatorial meeting involving Edo North, Edo South, and Edo Central, leaders of the Teachers union say, they are not backing out as they proceeded on Monday with the strike which they say was indefinite.
