Education: Teachers in Niger State Express Optimism Over 27 per cent increase in salaries

Ahead of schools resumption this September, school teachers in Niger State say they are optimistic that the state government will implement the 27 per cent salary increase agreement it entered with the State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress.

The teachers said this during a Meeting with Principals and Head Teachers of Schools in Zone B with the Commissioner for Basic & Secondary Education, Hadiza Muhammed.

The meeting brought together principals, head teachers, and other critical stakeholders from the Zone B axis of the state to forge common ground on how best to take education to a greater height in the state.

During the meeting, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education Education, Hadiza Muhammed, said the state has concluded plans to domesticate the National Teachers Career Path Policy to enable teachers to become more proficient rather than just classroom teachers.

She also revealed that the state government is planning on renovating about 500 schools across the 3 zones to ensure a conducive learning atmosphere for the pupils and students.

The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers, Akayago Muhammed and other speakers emphasized the need to implement the 27 per cent salary increase as well as the provision of a conducive learning atmosphere for teachers and students.

For the reintroduction of sports extracurricular activities into primary schools across the state, the commissioner emphasized that no parent is to pay for sportswear as the state government will provide them for free.
