Educational Development: APWEN advocates for more girls to study Science, Technology, Engineering in Nigeria

The Emir of Missau, in Bauchi state, North East Nigeria, Ahmed Suleiman, has commended the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, for constructing and equiping the science and technology laboratories in Missau.

The gesture according to the President, Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, (APWEN), Elizabeth Jumoke, is to encourage young girls to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

A look at the school system today, shows that something is wrong with the enrollment of students in Nigeria to study science, mathematics, especially in Northern Nigeria.

This is one of the issues, the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria wants address as it encourages young girls across the country to study science.

While handing over a science laboratory in Sarki Ahmadu Primary School Missau, named after the Former NNPC Group Managing Director, late Maikanti Baru, the Emir of Misau, Alhaji Ahmed Suleiman, hailed the Women Engineers for the project.

The programme, according to the President, has covered six geopolitical zones, with the hope of encouraging young girls and boys, who are willing to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics, in order to make them future economic drivers, and problem solvers in Nigeria.
