The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has arrested a TikTok user, Udoma David Ekeh, over an alleged spread of false information about the Commission and its officers.
The Nigerian anti-graft body said, the suspect reportedly claimed in December 2025 that operatives from the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC were kidnapped by bandits while on official duty in Kwara State.
According to the EFCC, Udoma further alleged that a large ransom was demanded for their release.
However, the Commission has dismissed the claims as entirely fabricated, accusing the suspect of using social media to misinform the public and undermine its ongoing efforts to combat internet fraud.
Preliminary investigations also indicate that Ekeh may be involved in a romance scam, allegedly using a Facebook account to impersonate a foreign individual identified as Garg Carta.
The EFCC said the suspect will be charged to Court in due course.
