Hotel managements in Enugu State have been blamed for aiding sales of illegal drugs and financial crimes activities by Clients who use their facilities.
The State Commander of Narcotics of the NDLEA, Peter Ogar who made the revelation when the State acting zonal Director of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mohammed Shaib Bello paid him a visit, called for stronger collaboration on intelligence sharing and tackling economic sabotage in the State.
Ogar noted that many Hotels in Enugu State are being used by drug barons to transact illegal drug businesses and sundry crimes; he says his Agency cannot combat the crime without intelligence. Ogar stresses that the EFCC and the NDLEA can achieve more with mutual intelligence sharing as he suggests the shutdown of some Hotels to serve as deterrent.

In his remarks, Bello describes the NDLEA as a strategic stakeholder in the fight against money laundering and promised better collaboration.
In the same vein, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, Praveen Chorghade called for assistance from the EFCC in tackling non-payment of electricity bills, theft and vandalization of infrastructures in the State.
Chorghade made the plea when the EFCC’s delegation led by its acting zonal Director, Mohammed Shaib Bello paid him a visit. He acknowledged the critical roles the Commission is playing in the reflation of the country’s economy, adding that vandalization of electricity infrastructures is an economic crime that is becoming prevalent in the state.
Bello promised the Commission’s unalloyed support to the EEDC.
