EFCC presents 3rd witness against Fani-Kayode in N26m fraud allegation

The trial of a former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, before the Federal High Court in Abuja, continued with the testimony of a third prosecution witness, Mohammed Goji.

While being led in evidence by the prosecuting counsel Faruk Abdullahi, the witness who is an Operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, narrated how the sum of N26million was traced to the defendant, in the course of investigating contracts executed by the Office of the National Security Adviser, under Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

In his testimony he said that they got Intelligence report about some certain amount of money running into billions of naira, meant for contracts in the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA where the sum of N26m was paid for Media Consultancy for which there was no record that the project was executed.

Series of letters were written to the Office of the NSA, payment vouchers and proposals, indicating how the said sum was paid were presented.

The witness also narrated how a search warrant was executed in the residence of the defendant on the 10th of May 2016 and afterwards invited fani kayode to the EFCC office for interview, on May 11 and 12, 2016.

Justice John Tsoho however adjourned the case till April 21, 2020 for continuation of trial.

The ex-aviation minister was accused of collecting N26 million from the Office of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, and using same for media campaign, contrary to Section 15 subsection 2b of the Money Laundering Act.

He pleaded not guilty and was admitted to bail in the sum of N50 million and one surety in like sum.
