The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has concluded plans to file charges against twenty suspects arrested for alleged electoral offences during the just-concluded Federal Capital Territory (FCT) local government elections.
The suspects were apprehended for offences including vote buying, vote selling, and obstruction of electoral officers, involving a total sum of N17,218,700 (Seventeen Million, Two Hundred and Eighteen Thousand, Seven Hundred Naira).
According to the Commission, one of the suspects was intercepted with N13,500,000 (Thirteen Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira) concealed in a vehicle parked beside a polling unit in the Kwali Area Council.
Arrests were also effected in other parts of the FCT: two suspects in Abaji, nine in Gwagwalada, four in Kuje, and four in Kwali.
The EFCC stated that investigations have reached an advanced stage and that the suspects will be arraigned in court in the coming days.
