In the wake of rising security challenges and threat to schools across Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force has taken a bold step by organizing a high level stakeholders forum on school security in Osun state
The forum had in attendance key players to focus on strategies for ensuring the safety of the student, teachers and educational institutions in osun state.
Year 2014 and 2018 will remain notable years in the security history of nigeria as 276 school girls in Chibok and over 100 school girls in dapchi were taken away from their dormitory by insurgents
According to 2021 reports by the national policy on safety security and violence free schools, more than 600 teachers were killed in attacks while more than 1,900 were displaced as close to 2,000 children were abducted which informed the desire of the Federal government to launch the school protection initiative
Inspector general of police Kayode egbetokun represented by AIG Fred Ekokutu said the initiative requires collaboration between educational authorities, community leaders, and security agencies.
Governor Ademola Adeleke represented by his Deputy Kola Adewusi, says the approach will ensure that schools remain safe spaces, children stay in classrooms, and education continues uninterrupted.
According to the Nigeria police authority,the launching of the school protection initiative will mark a turning point for schools across Nigeria
