Augustine Eguavoen will continue as interim coach of the Super Eagles, the Nigeria Football Federation has announced.

The 59-year-old Technical Director will lead the Super Eagles in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Libya in October. Eguavoen’s coaching staff will include Fidelis Ilechukwu, Daniel Ogunmodede, Olatunji Baruwa, and Tomaz Zorec.

The decision comes after failed negotiations with German coach Bruno Labbadia. Eguavoen recently guided Nigeria to a 3-0 victory over Benin Republic and a 0-0 draw against Rwanda in AFCON qualifiers.

The NFF Executive Committee approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee for Eguavoen to remain in charge.

Nigeria currently leads Group B of the qualifiers with four points from two matches in their pursuit of a spot in the 2025 AFCON.

The Eagles will be hosting Libya on October 6 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.

This appointment marks Eguavoen’s fourth stint as head coach of the Super Eagles. His previous experience and recent results have instilled confidence in the NFF and supporters, as Nigeria aims to build on their strong start in the AFCON qualifying campaign.
