Security has been heightened in Niger State ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, with the Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) deploying over 7,000 personnel across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Elleman, ordered the deployment of 5,000 officers, directing Area Commanders, DPOs, and tactical units to intensify intelligence-led operations and raids on identified blackspots.
He also mandated the mobilisation of operational assets including anti-riot water cannons, gun trucks, and patrol vehicles to boost visibility policing and ensure a strong security presence before, during and after the festivities.
Specialised units such as the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), EOD-CBRN, Tactical Support Team (TST), Crack Squad, Anti-Thuggery and Anti-Kidnapping Units have been deployed to Eid grounds, recreational centres and other strategic locations.
Similarly, the NSCDC State Commandant, Suberu Aniviye, approved the deployment of 2,375 personnel across command headquarters, area commands and divisional offices statewide.
The Corps says the operation, which commenced on March 18, 2026, is aimed at ensuring crowd control, public safety and protection of critical locations throughout the celebration period.
Both agencies have urged residents to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security operatives and promptly report suspicious activities.
