The European Union has commended INEC and all stakeholders and the people of Ekiti State for a largely peaceful poll.
Head of EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Samuela Isopi in a statement, expressed satisfaction with the level of improved logistics, including early deployment of personnel and essential materials to the polling units, as well as the better functioning of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and efficient electronic transmission of polling unit results to INEC’s results viewing portal.
The Envoy said this will augur well for the General Election in 2023.
She however said reports on the vote-buying need to be addressed and followed up.
The EU also commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the actions taken in Ekiti and encourages INEC to fully implement provisions on financial control over political parties in line with the recommendations of the 2019 EU Election Observation Mission.
The EU also wants eligible voters, particularly the youths and women, to sustain their participation beyond the elections by holding candidates accountable for their campaign promises.

The EU also promised to continue to support the mobilization of voters and youths to register and fully participate in the 2023 elections through the Youth Vote Count Campaign 2.0, organized in collaboration with INEC, YIAGA, and other civil society organizations in the framework of EU Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN).
