Abiodun Oyebanji

Abiodun Oyebanji will become the fifth democratically elected Governor of Ekiti state when he is sworn in later in the year

He emerged from the corridors of power and politics in Ekiti state to become the anointed candidate of the outgoing governor Kayode Fayemi, having served as the secretary to the state government

Abiodun Oyebanji could be described as a true son of the soil, with his early life rooted in his home state.

Born on the 21st of December 1967, in lkogosi-Ekiti, Oyebanji began his education at the Baptist Primary School, Ikogosi-Ekiti, from where he proceeded to Awo Community High school and later the CAC Grammar School, Efon-Alaaye, Ekiti State in 1979

He later attended the Federal School of Arts and Science, Ondo State.

Oyebanji acquired a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the Ondo State University (now Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti) in 1989 and later proceeded to the University of Ibadan, Oyo State in 1992 where he bagged his Masters’s Degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies.

Oyebanji lectured briefly at the University of Ado Ekiti and also worked as Manager, Treasury, and Financial Services at the defunct Omega Bank Plc till May 1999.

Upon joining politics, he was appointed chief of staff to the first democratically elected governor of the state, Niyi Adebayo in 1999 and later commissioner for budget and economic planning during governor Kayode Fayemi’s first term

He has held several other positions including Chairman, Governing Board, Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development from June 2009 to December 2010 and Commissioner, Ministry of Integration and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Ekiti State, between December 23, 2010, to December 2011

Having emerged victorious, Oyebanji has a lot to do in ensuring that his campaign promises to the people of Ekiti is not mere rhetoric.
