About five thousand hectares of farmlands, spread across nine local government areas of Ekiti State, have been destroyed by inferno.
Ekiti State Chairman of the Emergency Management Agency, Retired Captain Sunday Adebomi, confirmed this when he led an inspection and evaluation team, to assess the level of damage caused by the fire.
Adebomi who sympathised with the affected farmers, however expressed fears that Ekiti might experience food shortage this year, due to the farmland destroyed.
He however, assured them that facts gathered about the fire disaster, will be channelled to the appropriate quarters for necessary action and compensation to the affected farmers.

Reacting to the incident , the traditional ruler of Omu, Oba Ogundeji Adeyeye, said that farm products worth millions of naira were lost during the incident.
The team visited fire ravaged farms settlement in Omuo, Isinbode, and Omu at Ekiti East and Oye local government areas.
