Authorities of the University of Lagos have reported the disconnection of the entire campus by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company despite paying outstanding debt of N180 million.
In a statement signed by the University’s Head of Communications, Adejoke-Ibrahim Alaga titled, “Important notice: Power outage on campus”, stated that the Distribution Company has gone ahead to disconnect the University after engaging the management of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company to find common grounds of working out the differences between the University and the company.
The statement further noted that the management of the University had previously engaged the Distribution Company on the need to return the University to Band B to avert the huge electricity bill following the astronomical increase in bill when the University was unilaterally moved to Band A by the Distribution Company months back.
The statement called for calm among members of the University community following the development which has now thrown the entire institution into total darkness pending when all issues would be resolved.
As at the time of filing this report, the management of Eko Electricity Distribution Company through its Communications Officer, Babatunde Lasaki told AIT.live that a response on the University of Lagos disconnection will be put out to the public soon.
