Elder statesman, Professor Jibril Aminu, is dead, according to early reports on Thursday
Aminu, who represented Adamawa Central in the Senate, reportedly died on Thursday in Abuja after a long illness at the age of 85.
This was confirmed by his close associate and family friend, the current Adamawa State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Prambe.
Aminu, a medical doctor by profession, made notable contributions to education, healthcare and governance in Nigeria.
Professor Jibril Aminu, who marked his 85th birthday on August 25, 2024, was born in Song, Adamawa State, in 1939.
He had a distinguished career as a consultant cardiologist, educational administrator and politician.
Aminu served as Minister of Education, Minister of Petroleum & Mineral Resources, and was also Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States.
