Speaking During A Meeting With The Inter-Party Advisory Council, Ipac, Which Held At The Headquarters Of The Commission In Abuja On Friday, June 28, 2024, The Ince Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu Advised Political Parties And Other Interest Groups To Look At The Provisions Of The Electoral Act 2022 As Amended, With Respect To The Tenure Of Area Council Chairmen In The Federal Capital Territory Fct.
Prof. Yakubu Noted That The National Assembly Had Extended The Tenure Of The Area Councils From Three To Four Years, Aligning It With Executive And Legislative Elections Nationwide.

He Emphasized That With The New Law, The Tenure Of The Elected Officials, Which Began On The Date They Took Their Oath Of Office, Which Was June 14, 2022, Will Now Expire In June 2026.
The Inec Chairman However Appealed To All Persons With Ambition To Contest For The Positions Of Chairmen And Councillors In The Fct To Be Guided By The Provisions Of The Law And Judicial Pronouncements On The Issue Of Tenure.
