Following the outcome of the process of 2023 general elections, Nigeria’s house of representatives has passed five bills to address frivolous petitions by aggrieved participants, for INEC to organize election into the office of the President, National Assembly, State Governors and State Houses of Assembly on the same day as well as decongest the voter register every ten years.
The bill sponsored by member representing Ughelli Udu Fed Constituency,Francis Waive is the first set of amendments to the electoral act in the 10th assembly.

The lawmaker noted that the amendments proposed in this Bill have become necessary as they are drawn from the diverse opinions expressed by the Public, Candidates, Political Parties, Observers, Analysts on the conduct of the 2023 elections.
Section 10 sub sections 2 of the proposed legislation says “every 10 years the Commission shall carry out a re-registration exercise of all eligible voters in preparation for the next general elections”, this the lawmaker says will ensure accurate and effective list of registered voters.
The amendment to section 60 sub section (5) of the Principal Act is to ensure that Presiding Officers transfer and or transmit the results including total number of accredited voters and the results of the ballot electronically
However there were some arguments countering some of the proposed amendments.
