The Chairman Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Sadiq Umar says the Nigerian parliament remain committed to the development of democracy in Nigeria and has not dumped plans to override President Muhammadu Buhari’s Veto on the 2021 Electoral Act Amendment Bill.
Umar who represents Kwara North at the red Chamber, made the clarification in Ilorin the Kwara State capital while addressing Journalists on the electoral bill debate and matters arising.

According to Senator Sadiq Umar who represents Kwara North at the Red Chamber and also doubles as the Chairman Senate Committee on Rules and Business, noted that overriding the President’s Veto requires two third votes of both chambers, adding that the House of Representatives was on break at the moment, hence need to postpone further action on whether or not to veto the president.
A lawmaker in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Saheed Popoola is of the view that Nigeria’s governors’ Forum remain the stumbling block against the bill.
Nigerians are closely monitoring the situation to see how the matter would be resolved in the interest of democracy in Nigeria.
