Electricity consumers in Edo State have called on the Federal Government to take a critical look into the distribution of free metres by various distribution companies in the country.
Residents have also complained bitterly about the refusal of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to install the metres years after they applied. applying.
The Federal Government had on the 30th of October, 2020 actualized its plans to install over 30 million electricity prepaid metres across the country with an initial one million issued to various DISCOS in the country.
Eight months after the distribution, consumers in Edo State said they are yet to get the metres despite applying for them.

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company, (BEDC) is responsible for the distribution of the metres in Edo State and three other States in the country.
The company said out of the one million metres distributed nationally, the company was allocated 90,970 where were grossly inadequate.
Electricity consumers in Utagban Community were however lucky to benefit from the distribution exercise.
They however appealed to the government to lower the current electricity tariff.
