Authorities says it is going to take a while to determine the number of lives, vehicles and other property lost to Friday night’s devastating fire incident along Akpajo section of the East-West Road in Eleme LGA of River State, South-South Nigeria.
The fire, which claimed lives and destroyed several vehicles during the rush hour, was said to have been caused by a petrol tanker after it busted into flames after it collided with another heavy-duty truck.
In the meantime, Governor Sim Fubara has deployed emergency and security services to the scene and offered support to the bereaved families and individuals who suffered losses to the inferno.
The Governor who has visited the scene to assess the situation has dispatched security and emergency services saying he is saddened by the devastation.

Fubara says his administration will support victims of the road inferno as he orders full-scale investigation into the fire accident warning motorists to be cautious and abide by traffic regulations while driving.
The aftermath of the Friday night’s fire incident is a devastation of unimaginable scale. Burnt-out wreckages of different kinds of vehicles lay scattered on a long stretch of the road.

While many motorists and commuters miraculously survived, a few others unfortunately did not as some charred remains can be seen in a number of the vehicles burnt along the road, and in the drainage.
Authorities are yet to determine the number of lives lost, vehicles, and other properties destroyed in the fire as a man looks on in despair as he struggles to come to terms with the loss of his car and means of livelihood
For now, the Okrika and the Ogoni areas of Rivers State remain inaccessible including the strategic oil and free zones housing the Onne Deep Sea Port, Port Harcourt Refinery and other petrochemical industries.
