Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly have served an impeachment notice on the state Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi accusing him of gross misconduct.
Ajayi resigned his membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC and defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP but insisted on remaining in office.
At least 14 of the lawmakers have signed the impeachment notice served on the Deputy Governor. However, 9 lawmakers have pulled out of the planned impeachment of the Deputy Governor. The lawmakers in a letter signed by them and presented to the Assembly Speaker, Bamidele Oloyelogun, said they were not in support of the impeachment of the Deputy Governor.

The lawmakers include Iroju Ogundeji, Jamiu Maito, Rasheed Elegbeleye, Tomide Akinribido and Samuel Ademola. Others are Favour Semilore, Festus Akingbaso, Williams Adekunle and Tohr Success.
There is heavy security presence at the Ondo State House of Assembly as the lawmakers hold plenary with journalists barred from covering the proceedings.
